Neglected Lahore park

Published October 25, 2013

ISLAMPURA, previously known as Krishnagar, is one of the most densely-populated areas of Lahore. Old Lahoris still consider it as the DHA of Lahore.

You can easily get the idea of Islampura’s worth by the fact that it is the constituency of the incumbent prime minister. But, unfortunately, the old gem has started losing its charm.

The sole community park of Islampura, Nehru Park, contains not even a single quality of a well-maintained park. Its walking track is rough and the ground is full of weeds and other unwanted plants. It lacks the facility of amusements for children. It has no arrangement of purified water for visitors. It looks like a big lake during the monsoons.

The worst part is that females do not feel safe while going to the park. It is mainly due to the card and chess players who gather there, mostly during the evenings.

The administrators and staff members are always found absent.

I just want to request the authorities concerned to save this recreational site. It will save the time of many people who go to other parks of Lahore which are located far. The step will also reduce the burden on other parks of Lahore like Jinnah Garden and Race Course.

A better walking/jogging track and availability of pure drinking water can improve the health of the people of Islampura. More importantly, it will also enhance female participation in healthy activities.
