Strike

SARGODHA, June 3: More than 200 motorcycle-rickshaws’ drivers went on an hour’s strike on Tuesday in front of the Tehsil Municipal Administration office for closure of the College Road route for them by police. The drivers and their union leaders criticized the decision, alleging that the police had done so to favour a local transport company. The union pledged to continue pressuring the government to protect its rights.

Meanwhile, some commuters expressed concern over the decision to abolish the route for the motorcycle-rickshaws, which they said, was a good facility for the commoners.

When contacted, a traffic police official said the College Road was being given the status of a model road, and no such vehicle would be allowed to pass through this road.—Correspondent
