Boston Celtics overcome New York Knicks

NEW YORK, Dec 12: Antoine Walker drained his sixth three-pointer with 3.6 seconds left to send the game into overtime and the Boston Celtics thoroughly dominated the extra session to beat the New York Knicks 102-93 Tuesday.

The Celtics never held the led in the fourth quarter but quickly pulled away in overtime, outscoring the Knicks 13-4.

Kenny Anderson made a jumper and Paul Pierce drilled a three-pointer to spark Boston to its seventh win in eight games.

The Knicks appeared on the verge of victory when Latrell Sprewell came to the free throw line with 6.2 seconds left and a chance to give his team a four-point cushion.

Enjoying the best game of his 10-year career, Sprewell had already scored 48 points and the packed Madison Square Garden crowd was chanting for 50.

But he missed the first free throw before making the second and the Celtics got the ball back trailing by three at 89-86.

Knicks coach Don Chaney, in just his second game since taking over for Jeff Van Gundy, said he stressed not giving the Celtics a chance to get off a three-pointer in the timeout before the key play of the game.

Walker finished with a season-high 42 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Sprewell had a career-best 49 points, making 18-of-32 shots, including 6-of-10 three-pointers.
