Journalists boycott PA proceedings

KARACHI, Sept 9: Members of the Sindh Assembly Press Gallery protested on Monday against termination of service of over 25 journalists of the Jahan-i-Pakistan newspaper, killing of a journalist of a TV channel, inordinate delay in payment of salaries by some channels, and a recent incident of snatching purses and cellphones from four journalists of daily Dawn.

They walked out and held a meeting in the press chamber of the assembly building, presided over by KUJ president G.M. Jamali. Seeing the press gallery vacant, Information Minister Sherjeel Memon rushed to the press chamber and assured the journalists that he would take up the case with relevant quarters and requested them to end their boycott.

The journalists ended their boycott after the assurance of the minister who promised that if their problems were not solved he would join them at their protest camp.
