LAHORE, May 27: Police on Tuesday failed to arrest any of the alleged killers of five men gunned down on Monday.

Aimed at goods transporter Arif Ameer Butt, alias Tipu, the only son of the late underworld lord Billa Truckanwala, the attack outside Awan-i-Adal near the Civil Secretariat resulted in the killing of his three gunmen, a friend and a driver. He and five other people suffered injuries in the attack.

No breakthrough was reported to have been made by the police as far as the arrest was concerned. However, the police claimed to have raided several places for the arrest of the members of the rival group of Tipu.

On the other hand, the bodies of the deceased were returned to their families after autopsy. Strict security arrangements had been made at the city mortuary to avoid any eventuality.

Rooted in the city underworld, an old rivalry was a motive behind the attack. The late Billa of Shah Aalmi had an enmity with Teefi Butt and Gogi Butt of Gowalmandi.

Waheed, alias Waheedian and Aslam, alias Pappi, of the rival group were named in the case as the two men, who sprayed a volley of bullets on Tipu and his nine men.— Reporter
