LARKANA, May 26: A Jirga held here on Sunday amicably settled a long-running feud between two groups of the Mirbahar clan.
Former federal minister for defence, Aftab Shahban Mirani, acted as arbitrator. The proceedings of the Jirga lasted for seven hours during which point of view of the both groups was heard in detail.
The Jirga fixed Rs300,000 as compensation cost for one killing while the damages would be assessed later on.
The bloody dispute between Manzoor Mirbahar and Yakoob Mirbahar factions of the Fatehpur village began in 1956 after the killing of a man. Since then 11 persons of both sides had been killed and many injured.
The consultants included MPA Munwar Ali Abbasi, Sardar Zaffar Hussain Sangi, MPA Anwer Ali Mahar, Junid Soomro and Dr Sikandar Jatoi.
Three persons Yakoob, Bsheer and Qurban were brought from the central prison, Larkana to participate in the proceedings. They were later shifted back to the prison after the deliberations were over.
A committee, comprising Dr Fida Mirani and Iftekhar Mirani, was constituted to evaluate the degree of damages caused to the property in a week.
SNF: The Sindh National Front (SNF) has demanded of the government to halt the construction on the greater Thal canal.
The demand was made in a meeting chaired by Amir Bakhsh Bhutto, member, the executive committee, the SNF.
The meeting discussed political situation in the country and called for immediate lifting of ban on recruitment and fixing procurement rate for sugarcane.
WOMAN KILLED: A woman was killed on Sunday on the pretext of Karo-kari near the Wapda grid station in Ratodero town.
Ms Dadlee, 28, was gagged to death by her husband, Ali Jan Umrani. He escaped from the scene after the killing.
The Ratodero police are investigating.
