Award for Amrita Pritam

LAHORE, May 26: The World Punjabi Congress on Monday decided to give a lifetime achievement award to Amrita Pritam.

This was decided by the congress in a meeting presided over by it chairman Fakhar Zaman.

A ceremony would be held in Lahore for the purpose on June 6, he added. Mr Zaman said the congress had been fighting for due recognition of the language. He counted a few achievements in this regard.

He said the congress had decided to reward national and international Punjabi writers and their work and Amrita Pritam was the first to be honoured. The book would be picked later, he added. — Staff Reporter
