DACCA: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan, who died here this morning (Aug 19) of heart failure at 10.40am (EPST) at the Combined Military Hospital, was laid to rest in Pakistan’s second capital at 7.30 last night with full military honours. The graveyard is situated within the proposed National Assembly building area, about 300 yards to the south of the Ayub Gate.

Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan, it may be recalled, was ailing for the last fortnight. He was suffering from anaemia and bronchitis and was brought to Dacca on Aug 10 from Rawalpindi.

People stunned

DACCA: The sudden death of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan, spread like wild fire throughout the city.

People were stunned to hear the news of his demise because they had read in today’s newspapers about an “improvement” in his condition.

Many a person who tuned in to Radio Pakistan was taken aback to hear Tilawat-i-Quran at odd hours, and heard the sorrowful news. Tears rolled down the check of many admirers who prayed for the repose of the soul of the great parliamentarian.

The official residence of Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan plunged into gloom when the body of the Speaker was brought out from the Military ambulance. People rushed to reach the body with tears rolling down their cheeks. They burst into tears and started crying like children.
