KARACHI, May 26: After a long time, pro-Nawaz Sharif slogans echoed outside Karachi Press Club on Monday as mainly women activists of the PML(N) staged a peace rally to observe nuclear detonation by its government on May 28, 1998.

The PML(N) activists accused the Musharraf regime of compromising the national interest on Kashmir and rolling back the nuclear deterrent programme.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with pro-Nawaz slogans, they rejected the government’s Kashmir and nuclear roll- back policy together with the LFO and other anti-people policies of the government.

They chanted slogans of “long live Nawaz Sharif” and “go Musharraf go”. They also released hundreds of pigeons to express their commitment to peace.

PML(N) activists, including provincial president Imdad Chandio, general secretary Mamnoon Hussain, Salim Zia, Sardar Abdul Rahim, Parveen Bashir, Shirin Butt, and Nehal Hashmi, emphasized the significance of nuclear blast and Pakistan being the only Muslim nuclear country. The participants were apprehensive about the fact that the regime might compromise Pakistan’s nuclear programme for fortifying its rule.
