MINGORA, May 25: The differences among the leaders of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal surfaced in Shangla district, as they issued press statements against each other. A member of the NWFP assembly, Pir Mohammad Khan, by moving a resolution in the assembly about purdah (veil) for women has invited wrath of some of the MMA leaders.

Maulana Rahat Hussein, senator and leader of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Shangla has asked the MPA to tender his resignation and re-contest for his seat as an independent candidate, as presently he became MPA on the MMA ticket. The senator in a statement on Saturday has said that the MPA was involved in anti-MMA activities and thus creating problems for the provincial government.

Sharply reacting to the statement of the JUI leader, the brother of the MPA and the Nazim of tehsil council Puran Mohammad Ali Khan, in a statement on Sunday, has criticized the senator and asked him to refrain from issuing such statements.

He said that Pir Mohammad has a sufficient vote bank and roots in the masses, adding that prior to the formation of the MMA Pir Mohammad Khan had won the election in his own capacity. He warned that issuing of provocative statements could cause a rift among the MMA leaders.

WORKSHOP: : A one-day training workshop was arranged here on Sunday by the department of population welfare, Swat, which was largely attended by the registered medical practitioners from across the district.

Fazal Mehmood Khan, district population welfare officer, while speaking at the gathering said that the population was increasing and the economic resources were very limited. He said that for boosting our economy we must control population.

Syed Akbar Khan, former district population welfare officer said that for improvement of the economy of our the people ought to take a united stand. He said that if the increasing trend in population was not controlled it would cause many hardships for the nation.
