KARACHI, May 24: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has stressed the need for cooperation between Nazims and ministers so that the new system worked to people’s advantage.
The president was talking to a delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement which called on him at the Governor’s House.
He highlighted the need for good governance and solving the people’s problems.
The Muttahida team discussed with the president development projects and issues being faced by the people of Karachi.
The president assured the delegation of his full support in tackling these matters.
The president was also given a briefing on the law and order situation.
The delegation, comprising eight ministers and four advisers with a ministerial status, was led by MQM Coordination Committee’s senior vice-president Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, and Sindh’s senior minister Syed Sardar Ahmad.
The president changed his schedule to meet the delegation. The meeting lasted more than an hour.
While discussing various issues pertaining to law and order in the province in general and Karachi in particular, Aftab Shaikh requested the president to provide 100 more mobile phones to Sindh’s home department for a better communication and cooperation among officials.
When his attention was drawn towards complaints of Nadra’s ill-treatment with the people, the president assured the delegation that he will look into the matter.
The MQM ministers requested the president to grant them an interview in Islamabad.
The other members of the delegation were Shoaib Bokhari, Muhammad Hussain, Adil Siddiqui, Rauf Siddiqui, Shabbir Ahmad Qaimkhani, Yaqub Ilyas, Salahuddin Haider, Faisal Gabol, Noman Sehgal, and Naeem Ishtiaq.
