KARACHI, May 23: The cleanliness campaign is being carried out in various city areas, on the directives of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad.

The governor had ordered heads of town administrations, police, hospitals and various other departments to play their due role in the cleanliness campaign, on war footing, to make the city clean.

Reportedly, the campaign is being carried out, also during night in various towns, with emphasis on removal of wall-chalking, elimination of encroachments, cleaning of drains and plantation of trees.

Garbage, in all the eight Union Councils of Baldia towns, was being removed speedily and the bodies claimed to have removed about 3,000 tons of garbage from near cattle pond in UC-4.

Besides, 36 illegal cattle pens have been removed from sector-9, which have been set up on main road, while footpaths have also been cleaned and tree plantation started.

A large number of encroachments have been removed from market-24 in the Baldia Town, Chandni Chowk and from main Hub River Road.

In Gulshan-e-Iqbal 5,500 tons of garbage has been allegedly lifted with the help of some 26 vehicles, operating round the clock. Twenty year old encroachments in Amina Park near the National Stadium have been removed and a nursery has been established there.

Erasing of wall-chalkings and encroachments have been carried out in the old Sabzi Mandi.

In Malir Town, besides day time, cleanliness work is being done from mid-night to 6am.

In Gulberg Town, besides lifting of garbage, wall-chalkings are also being removed. A camp has been set up near Aishha Manzil for free distribution of plants.

In Organi Town, so far about 1,500 tons of garbage has been removed from various areas.

Responding to numerous public complaints and reports of traffic congestion at Burnes road, Nazim Saddar Town Farooq Fariah has directed the concerned department to clear all illegal structures from Burnes road and nearby areas.

The anti-encroachment department of Saddar Town has cleared scores of cabins and other fixed structures from Burnes Road, Mohammad bin Qasim road and area around Fresco crossing while a number of concrete structures erected by shopkeepers established on footpaths, too, have been demolished.—APP/PPI
