PESHAWAR, May 22: The Accountability Court No 4 on Wednesday convicted a land acquisition collector of the National Highway Authority in a misappropriation case involving Rs50 million.
The court awarded land acquisition collector Nazir Ahmed five-year rigorous imprisonment and Rs23.17 million fine.
A National Accountability Bureau press release on Thursday said the NHA had acquired a piece of land measuring 187 kanal and three marla in Nowshera district for the construction of Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway.
On complaints about misappropriation in the land acquisition, NAB investigated the case and found that Nazir Ahmed, in collaboration with some other NHA officials, had caused huge loss to the exchequer, the release said. Nazir Ahmed was arrested on Jan 11, 2002.—APP
