NAWABSHAH, May 21: Women house officers of the People’s Medical College Hospital, Nawabshah, living in the bachelor’s hostel for girls, are facing problems due to lack of facilities and the dilapidated condition of the hostel building.
Talking to this correspondent, some of the house officers said there was no water supply lines in the hostel and they had to get water through a hand pump. There was also no water cooler in the hostel, they added.
They said old furniture was provided in rooms of the hostel and the building was also in dilapidated condition. Drainage lines were damaged and there were no sweepers to clean rooms, they further said.
The house officers said incoming telephone service was also not available at the hostel and the public telephone booth mostly remained out of order.
They said Rs500 each was being deducted from their salaries on account of house rent but no facilities were being provided to them.
They criticized the hostel management for not resolving their problems and said several verbal and written requests were made to the medical superintendent of the hospital through the deputy medical superintendent but to no avail.
The doctors demanded that the Sindh chief minister and the health authorities concerned should take notice of the matter and ensure adequate facilities at the hostel.
When contacted by this correspondent, deputy medical superintendent Dr Amna Zafar said they had asked the buildings department to repair the hostel but so far the work had not been started.
KILLED: Two persons were killed after they were hit by a truck on the National Highway near Sakrand on Wednesday.
Imamdin Veesar, a resident of Sukkur, and Bhagat Bagri, a resident of Shikarpur, were killed when the truck (K-8541) run over them. The driver escaped.
The bodies were taken to the Sakrand Taluka Hospital and later handed over to their relatives.
