ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday wrote a letter to the chief of army staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani declaring the current security for the May 11 elections as inadequate, DawnNews reported.

The Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahin, in his letter, stated that the ECP and the armed forces must work together to ensure free, fair and transparent polls.

The Election Commissioner also requested the army chief that the military should be deployed at the sensitive polling stations instead of being utilized as a quick response force.

In separate news, secretary of ECP, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan is scheduled to meet caretaker prime minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso today and brief him on the election preparations.
