HYDERABAD, May 19: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has demanded that 1,110 vacant posts of teachers in colleges should be filled in accordance with the Sindh Public Service Commission advertisement.
A meeting of the SPLA, held here on Monday, also called for immediate appointments on vacant posts of principals.
It further demanded that salaries and allowances of college teachers should be raised commensurate with price-hike, house rent be increased to 60 per cent, teachers be given Rs1,000 medical allowance per month and salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff of colleges of Kotri be disbursed through the district accounts officer, Hyderabad.
It said notification of promotion of 295 lecturers should be issued before May 31 and the additional secretary, planning, additional secretary, academic, and the EDO, education, be removed forthwith.
The SPLA appealed to the president, prime minister, Sindh chief minister and the chief secretary to resolve problems of college teachers.
Prof Liaquat Aziz presided over the meeting.
TELEPHONE: The general manager, Southern Telecommunication Region-I, Syed Mureed Ali Shah, has said capacity of telephone exchanges in the region has been extended.
He was speaking at an open kutchehry in Naseem Nagar, Qasimabad, here on Sunday.
He said the officers concerned had been directed to hold open kutchehries in their respective areas.
