KARACHI, May 19: A marked improvement was witnessed in sanitary conditions in parts of Saddar Town as a result of the ongoing cleanliness drive.
The special drive was launched in the town last week on a directive of the city government to improve general living conditions.
On Monday, the 8th day of the campaign, sanitation workers removed garbage and debris from different parts of the town and a town official said that nearly 350 tons of garbage were lifted from vital arteries, footpaths and the areas around mosques and Imambargahs.
Earlier, the staff had removed 400 tons of garbage, as part of the campaign, from the adjoining areas of Civil Hospital, Sobhraj Hospital, Gazdarabad Maternity Home, Khutiana Memon Hospital and Kharadar Hospital besides DJ Science College and Women College (Burnes Road).
The town officials visited the sites to supervise the campaign personally and issued on the spot instruction.
They directed the officials to take stern action against the shopkeepers throwing garbage on roads.
APPEAL: Residents of Lea Market have urged the town administration to immediately remove the filth dumped elsewhere in the locality after getting the sewerage lines cleared. In an appeal, they pointed out that the filth was polluting the environment in the entire area.
