LAHORE, April 23: Governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood has said that the electricity loadshedding will be curtailed from Wednesday (today).

The assurance was given by Governor Mahmood to Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) Chairman Malik Tahir Javed at a meeting at Governor’s House on Tuesday. The governor said he was well aware of the troubles being faced by the businessmen due to electricity loadshedding and making out efforts to resolve the issue.

Urging the PIAF chairman to forward a set of proposals to improve law and order situation, he said the issues confronting the business community -- the backbone of the economy -- would be resolved on priority basis.

Earlier, PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javed informed the governor that industrial production was at its lowest ebb due to unprecedented electricity and gas loadshedding and industrialists have left with no other option but to shut down their units.

Mr Javed said gas consumption at domestic level had registered a clear decline due to change in weather but industrial sector was still getting only three days a week gas supply that was a sheer injustice.

Welcoming the assurance of the governor, the PIAF chief termed it a good omen but urged the policymakers to solve the energy crisis on sustainable basis to get rid of the economic worries.

He said country’s immense potential to generate hundreds of thousands of megawatts of electricity through coal, wind, solar and hydel resources should be utilised.
