HYDERABAD, May 17: Hundreds of employees of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, continued boycott of work for the sixth consecutive day on Saturday in protest against the policies of the vice-chancellor and some retired army officers working at the campus.

As a result academic activities remained suspended and examinations, scheduled to begin on May 19, were postponed.

The employees, who were joined by the students, also took out a mock funeral procession of education at the university and offered its funeral prayer at the hostel ground.

Speaking on the occasion, SAU Employees Action Committee leader Abdul Majeed Rashidi said that the VC was providing concocted information about their protest through press statements.

Meanwhile, a general body meeting of the Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association, held on Saturday, discussed the prevailing situation at the campus.

The meeting criticized the campus director, Col (retd) Khalid Murad, and the chief security officer, Commander (retd) Ali Murad Goraho, who is also the controller of examinations, for failing to improve academic environment at the campus.

It condemned the statement of the campus director in which he blamed the university f for the adverse state of affairs at the university and held the retired military officers responsible for the crisis at the campus.

The meeting pointed out that the university was facing a huge budge deficit due to the wrong policies of the administration.

The association appealed to the Sindh governor to terminate the services of the retired military officers and other contract officers as their appointments had not been approved by the university syndicate.

It urged the vice-chancellor to accept demands of the employees and ensure peaceful atmosphere at the campus. It also called for convening a meeting of the university syndicate to discuss the situation.

Meanwhile, the controller of examinations of the university on Saturday postponed the second term examinations of bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, scheduled to commence on May 19.
