WASHINGTON, May 16: Pakistan has honoured one of its most eminent diplomats, Ambassador Jamshed Marker, by naming the main hall at the new embassy building in Washington after him.
Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri made this announcement at a reception in the new building on Thursday night, praising Mr Marker as “a diplomat and a Pakistani we should be proud of.”
Mr Marker, who comes from a distinguished family of Quetta, has served his country both as Pakistan’s ambassador to Washington and to the United Nations.
“I am proud that he is from my hometown,” said Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi while proposing that the embassy’s new hall be named after him.
“Mr Marker has made a major contribution to promoting Pakistan-US ties,” added the foreign minister.
