SHIKARPUR, May 16: People’s Party Parliamentarians leaders have strongly opposed the Legal Framework Order and urged the government to find out solutions of the disputes of water distribution and construction of Thal canal with the consensus of provinces.
These views were expressed by PPP MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, MPA Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Haji Munawwar Abbasi and party’s divisional president Agha Sirajuddin Durrani while speaking at the district convention of party workers here the other day.
They said that the PPP and its allies would not soften their stand against the LFO but continue their struggle till the LFO was withdrawn and 1973 Constitution was restored in letter and spirit.
They said that the LFO violated constitutional and democratic values.
They said that on the assurance of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, people had participated in general elections for restoration of democracy but they were disappointed when instead of stabilizing the democratic process, he remained president on pretext of the referendum.
The PPP leaders demanded of the rulers to stop what they called drama of democracy, insisting that there could be no democracy in the presence of domination of army.
They advised General Pervez Musharraf to say good bye to the army uniform to get himself elected through constitutional process.
ANNIVERSARY: Sixtieth death anniversary of former Sindh chief minister Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro was observed here at the press club by the Jeay Sindh Mahaz(J) the other day.
Speaking on the occasion, JSM(J) chief Abdul Khaliq Junejo deplored that instead of resolving the problems of Sindh, the elected representatives were fighting for their vested interests.
He added that those, who had compromised on the interests of Sindh for grabbing power and had forgotten commitments they had made during their electoral campaigns, were the enemies of the people.
Highlighting contribution of Shaheed Soomro for the cause of Sindh, other speakers — including Dr Abdul Khaliq Soomro Raaz and Professor Dr Anwar Figar — particularly recalled his efforts for restoration of provincial autonomy.
