FO expresses concerns over Karzai's criticism at Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday expressed concern on remarks by Afghan President Karzai against state institutions saying Pakistan was keenly interested in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The foreign office spokesman was commenting on the statement of President Hamid Karzai, who in a interview to a private Pakistani channel, attempted to create an impression as if some institutions of Pakistan are not fully supporting the objectives of bringing peace to Afghanistan.

“The Government of Pakistan and all its institutions have unanimity of views on issues of national security and foreign policy,” said the spokesman.

In this context, promoting peace and stability to Afghanistan is an important pillar of Pakistan's foreign policy which is supported by all state institutions, he added.

However, the success of this policy requires reciprocal action and goodwill on the part of Afghan government as well.

“It is in our common interest to jointly address the challenges of terrorism and extremism being faced by our region and the newly elected leadership of Pakistan has reiterated its resolve to fully support an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process,” the spokesman said.

He said Pakistan will continue to support reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan in all its earnest for achieving durable peace, stability and development in the region.
