Plea to reinstate sacked teachers

DADU, May 12: Ten primary school teachers have announced that they will commit self-immolation on May 17 against the termination from their services.

They staged a demonstration outside the local press club here on Sunday to protest against the terminatoin from their services.

They said that 40 teachers were appointed on merit after conducting a written test and interviews some six months back. But the education officers had illegally issued appointment orders others who were not appear in test and interviews.

They announced that if all the sacked teachers were not reinstated, they would block the Indus Highway in protest and 10 of their colleagues would commit self-immolation.

Primary school teachers of Dadu taluka boycotted classes and staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Monday to protest against registration of a robbery case against their leaders.

They were carrying banners and placards and raising slogans against the assistant district officer (ADO), education, Dadu.

Speaking on the occasion, Mansoor Ali Kalhoro and other leaders of the Primary Teachers Association, Dadu taluka, alleged that the ADO had embezzled salaries of lower staff of the education department and lodged a fake case against the president of PTA, Dadu taluka, Abdul Rehman Panhwar, and other office-bearers of the association.

They threatened to continue their strike if no action was taken against the ADO, education.

DEMO: A large number of residents and activists of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan held a demonstration on the Indus Highway on Monday to protest against gambling and drug dens being run in Khairpur Nathan Shah with the connivance of the police.

Speaking at the rally, local JUP leader Hafiz Mohammad Amin Jamali said that when he complained to the police officers against the gambling and narcotics dens, he was attacked and tortured by criminals.
