NAWABSHAH, May 12: Growers of the Jamal Shah Minor, Dad irrigation division, Nawabshah, have threatened to go on hunger strike, if a legal action was not taken against irrigation officials for selling water.

Syed Pir Shah, a local landlord and Nazim, said that about 5000 acre of land in their area was becoming barren due to the artificial shortage of irrigation water.

He said that lift machines were being used for water theft under the supervision of irrigation staff.

He said that growers were passing miserable lives due to low crop yield. He demanded of higher authorities to provide them justice.

WATER ROTATION: The executive engineer of Nusrat irrigation division, Nawabshah, has announced a rotation programme for the distribution of irrigation water.

According to the schedule, in Nawabshah-I sub-division, the Chanbaboo system would remain opened from May 11 to 19 and the Right Jari Minor, the Left Jari Minor, the Khipro Minor and the Shinar Minor of Nawabshah-II sub-division from May 13 to 21.

The James system of Daur sub-division would remain opened from May 14 to 22 and the Jalbani Minor, Chaheer Minor and the Draki Minor of Padidan sub-division from May 9 to 17. The Tetri Minor would remain opened from May 11 to 19 and the Channa system of Shahpur sub-division from May 17 to 25.

HUNGER STRIKE: The watchmen of the food department continued their token hunger strike for third consecutive day on Monday for regularization of their services.

They said that the government was ignoring their problems.
