ISLAMABAD, June 3: Leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday protested in front of Supreme Court for the recovery of missing persons who ‘disappeared’ during May 11 elections.

Besides, family members of missing persons and those who were killed during elections were also present.

They appealed to Chief Justice to take suo moto notice of the issue.

Parliamentarians Dr. Farooq Sattar, Babar Khan Ghori, Sufyan Yousuf, Iqbal Qadri and members of Rabta Committee Qamar Mansoor, Mian Atique and others also participated in the protest.

Dr Farooq Sattar while talking to media persons said that during recent elections as many as 30 workers of MQM were kidnapped. Out of which 20 were murdered and 10 were still missing.

“Workers were kidnapped by persons without having uniforms, riding in without number plate vehicles. There is a general opinion that they were ‘Rangers’,” he said.

He appealed to chief justice that he should take suo moto notice, provide assurance for the recovery of missing workers but also take action against culprits.

A woman, sister of missing worker Muhammad Faheem, said that her brother was missing since May 11 from Karachi but police and other departments have not taken any action for his recovery.

Protesters were of the view that peace can not be assured in Karachi without taking action against the elements who have been involved in criminal activities.

They said that smuggling of weapons should be stopped from tribal areas to Karachi.

Two members of National Assembly Sufyan Yousuf and Iqbal Qadri went in the Supreme Court to request CJ (through registrar) to take suo moto notice but registrar was not available.

Zonal Incharge of MQM Islamabad, Muhammad Yasir while talking to Dawn said that they have recorded the protest and now further line of action will be decided by the Rabta Committee.
