ATTOCK, June 1: A local leader of Jamiat-i-Ulema Pakistan-Noorani (JUP-N) was killed in a clash over a land dispute in Pind Sultani village of Basal police station on Saturday.

The JUP leader Mohammad Dawood Mustafai was also the party candidate for PP-19 in May11 election.

According to police, Mr Mustafai came to Sardar Ameer Khan in Pind Sultani village along with his close relatives to settle a dispute of agriculture land a local farmer Mohammad Hussain was running with the sardar. But he refused to talk over the dispute and warned Mr Mustafai to stay away from the dispute.

But Mustafai insisted to settle the dispute, which angered Ameer Khan who opened fire on his guests and later escaped from the scene, sources said.

As a result, Mr Mustafai died on the spot, while his brother Farooq Razaq, nephew Mohammad Umar and a relative Abdullah sustained serious injuries.

The injured and the deceased were later shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital Jand by the relatives.

Later, after postmortem, the relatives placed the body of the deceased on Kohat-Pindi road near Pind Sultani village in protest about 1 pm, causing suspension of traffic on this main highway.

The local police rushed to the scene and tried to disperse the protesters, but they refused to budge.

The situation got worse when hundreds of JUP’s leaders and activists also joined the protest. They were demanding immediate arrest of the murderers.

The district police officer Abdul Kadir Qamar along with other police officials and assistant commissioner Jand tehsil reached the site of the rally and assured the protesters to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile local religious leaders including have condemned the killing of JUP-N leader. They said that land mafia was involved in the incident. They have demanded the government to arrest the criminals.— Correspondent
