Woman suffers gunshot wounds in Karachi's Orangi Town

KARACHI:A woman sustained gunshot injuries near Iqbal Market area in Karachi's Orangi town on Thursday, police officials told Dawn.com.

Initially police officials had claimed that the injured woman was the principal of Al-Khayyam School in the locality.

Head Moharir of Iqbal Market police station, Safdar, said that the 35-year-old-woman, Rehana Rehman, was busy with household chores inside her residence when she got hit on her ankle by a stray bullet that pierced through the door of her house, adding that the only link between the lady and the Al-Khayyam school is that "her residence was situated opposite the school premises."

A resident of Iqbal Market in Chishti Nagar, Rehana’s husband, Atta ur Rehman, is an Imam and works at Karachi Port Trust.

The police said that no eye-witness from the area had come forward adding that the incident was still being probed.
