Death, fine for killers of four

SIALKOT, May 10: District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Zafar Husain has awarded death sentence on four counts each with Rs1,600,000 fine to four men who had killed as many people in Dhani Chand village (Kotli Loharan) on Eid day.

According to the prosecution, Khan Bahadar, Allah Rakha, Bahadar Khan and Karam Elahi had shot dead Ilyas, Akram, Ghulam Fatima and Naureen over a property dispute on Feb 9, 1997.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Nazir Ahmad has also awarded death sentence with Rs200,000 fine to Riaz in Chhani Gondal (Head Marala) murder case.

The judge acquitted Nawaz, Tariq, Sharif, Sabir and Khalid by giving them the benefit of doubt.

ASIs INJURED: Two assistant sub-inspectors and a constable were injured allegedly by the villagers during a raid in Saahowala village of Daska tehsil on Friday.

According to the FIR lodged with Sambrial police by Begowala SHO Inspector Tehseen Sadiq, a police party raided the house of Abid Ali for the recovery of an abducted woman, Rasheed Bibi, in Saahowala village.

The residents of the area attacked the police party with bricks, axes, sticks and guns and injured ASIs Niaz Ahmad and Muhammad Arshad and constable Ejaz Ahmad.

The SHO also alleged that the villagers also tore up the uniforms of the three police officials.

Sambrial police registered a case against Abid Ali, Shahzad, Imran, Abid, Bashir, Fiza, Haneefan Bibi, Sakina Bibi, Bushra Bibi, Abida, Rasheed Bibi and three unidentified people.

No accused could be arrested till late on Saturday night.
