ASI, two dacoits die in shootout

KASUR, May 10: An ASI and two dacoits were killed while an ASI and a constable received serious bullet wounds on Saturday in an encounter in Rajowal Nau village in the limits of Khudian police station.

City Circle SDPO Zaheer Babar Bajwa on a tip-off that notorious dacoit Safdar Ali Joyia along with his accomplices was present in a house reached there and besieged the area. Getting wind of the police presence, the outlaws took their positions and opened fire on them. The police, already on the alert, returned the fire. After several hours of shootout, dacoit Safdar Joyia and one of his accomplices Ghulam Rasool and ASI Muhammad Akbar died instantly while ASI Muhammad Akram and constable Muhammad Anwar suffered critical bullet wounds. They were admitted to the local DHQ Hospital.

In the meantime, other dacoits managed to escape from the scene. However, Kasur DPO Mian Ghulam Muhammad Kalyar along with elite force and heavy police contingent were chasing the culprits. The police recovered four motorcycles, three 44 bore rifles, two 32 bore rifles, two pump action guns, a double barrel gun, two 30 bore pistols and several cartridges.

The funeral prayers of ASI Muhammad Akbar offered at the district police lines was attended by district Nazim Rana Imtiaz, tehsil Nazim Malik Rasheed, DCO Babar Yaqoob, DPO Mian Ghulam Muhammad and scores of police officials. The body of the ASI was later sent to his home town, Chunian.

Meanwhile, the district Nazim has announced Rs0.5 million while the police department another Rs0.5 million compensation for the family of the deceased ASI.

The district Nazim also announced that education expenses of the elder son of the deceased ASI would be borne by the district government.
