LAHORE, May 24: Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has showcased his research on “Improving the reproductive efficiency of dairy cows and buffaloes” at an exhibition arranged by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Islamabad during its national seminar on the Future of Research in Pakistan.
The UVAS project was one of the 10 nationwide projects selected for presentation at the exhibition.
Prof Ahmad is the principal investigator of the Pak-US HEC funded research project and he was assisted by research associates Dr Ali Hasnain and Dr Umair Riaz.
About the project results, Prof Ahmad said the slow reproduction in dairy animals could be improved, especially in buffaloes, by using different synchronization protocols, reproductive ultra-sonography and fixed time insemination.
He said that all activities of his research project had been carried out at public and private dairy farms.
The impact of the project was evident from the fact that commercial farmers had adopted improved reproductive management system and new farmers were following this on their own cost, he said.
