KARACHI, May 24: The first session of the new Sindh Assembly is going to be held on May 29 in which MPAs-elect will be administered the oath.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Friday signed a summary and sent it to the Sindh Assembly secretariat so that it could make necessary arrangements for holding the first meeting of the house.

In the session, which would be presided over by Speaker Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, new members of the assembly would be administered the oath and a schedule would be given for the election of the new speaker and deputy speaker of the assembly.

With the administration of the oath, it would be the 14th elected house of Sindh.

The Sindh Assembly comprises 168 members. Of them, 130 are elected directly against general seats while 29 women and nine non-Muslims are nominated on the principle of proportional representation by the Election Commission of Pakistan from the lists submitted by major political parties at the time of nomination of papers for the general seats.

The ECP has announced results on 124 provincial assembly seats. Of them, the Pakistan Peoples Party bagged 65 seats, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement 37, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional 7, PML-N 4, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf 3, the National Peoples Party 2, the PML-Q secured one seat. Five independent candidates had also won the elections.

According to the ECP website, polling on two PA seats —PS-64 (Mirpurkhas) and 95 (Orangi Town) — could not be held on May 11.

Result of PS-22 (Naushahro Feroze) was withheld and re-polling would be held in some of the polling stations of PS-17 (Jacobabad), 62 (Tharparkar-III) and 63 (Tharparkar-IV).
