ISLAMABAD, May 23: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will hold inquiry against Dr Ahmad Nadeem Akbar, former registrar of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), and other officials.

According to the PMDC, prima facie, Dr Ahmad Nadeem Akbar and other officials were involved in corruption and corrupt practices punishable under section 18(C) of National Accountability Ordinance 1999. The bureau has directed its investigation officers to hold the inquiry and submit report together with the evidence and other material collected by August 29, 2013.

The bureau has directed the PMDC to cooperate and submit all the information and record including those of the PMDC headquarters secretariat building.

The council has been asked to provide details of salary and other fringe benefits used to be drawn by the former registrar.

Dr. Shaista Faisal Acting Registrar has been nominated as focal person for the inquiry.

The PMDC administrator Dr Raja Amjad Mehmood has taken strict notice of the medical dental colleges, which are deficient in their faculty and do not have their own hospitals.

The PMDC has been carrying out inspection of all medical and dental colleges with a view to improving standard of education.

Dr Ahmad Nadeem Akbar is accused of registering thirteen fake doctors as legal medical practitioners and cheating the Supreme Court and the members of executive committee of the council.— A Reporter
