PPP-MQM balance

Published May 23, 2013

THE PPP and the MQM have again emerged as the two biggest parties in Sindh after general elections. The PPP, which mainly enjoys support in rural areas, has again come out as the leading party with around 70 seats.

The MQM, which has a huge following in urban centres of Sindh, has about 50 seats.

Recently, there has been a debate going on in political circles about which party’s representative should be made the chief minister of the province.

Being the clear leader, the PPP wants its representative to be the chief minister.

However, in that case, this would be rather unjust for the urban population of Sindh which has given its mandate to the MQM.

I would like to draw my attention to the party leadership of both the MQM and the PPP and request them to make an understanding among themselves and divide the five-year tenure proportionately according to the number of their seats. In that way, both the mandates of urban and rural Sindh would be duly respected.
