Young couple killed for ‘honour’

KARACHI, May 21: A young couple was shot dead in their house in Kanwari Colony in the name of ‘honour’ on Tuesday, police said.

They said that 18-year-old Sana and 22-year-old Ahmed Shah had tied the knot about six months ago of their free will. The girl’s family had lodged a case against her husband at the Pirabad police station.

However, they later made an ‘agreement’ with him to settle the dispute.

Pirabad SHO Abdul Moid said that Sana’s mother and two brothers — Asghar Khan and Bahadur Khan — allegedly killed the couple in their house.

He said that Asghar and his mother were arrested, though Bahadur managed to escape.

The girl’s family and that of her husband originally hailed from Swat.

A case was registered at the Pirabad police station.

The police said that Asghar told investigators that they killed their sister and brother-in-law for ‘honour’.

ASI, niece found shot dead

A policeman and his niece were found shot dead in her apartment in the SITE area on Tuesday, police said.

They said Assistant Sub-Inspector Malik Aijaz, 50, and his niece Nuzhat aka Anam, 35, were killed allegedly by her husband, Kashif, who went missing after the incident.

The SITE-B police said that area people informed them about firing and smoke emanating from the ground-floor apartment in Labour Square. A police team reached the scene and found their bodies.

They said that the ASI’s body was lying under the bed and the bedspread had been torched. The woman’s body was lying on another bed.

Area SHO Sharif Meo told Dawn that the slain policeman was a maternal uncle of the woman. She invited him to their residence on Monday night and it appeared that a scuffle erupted there and the woman’s husband killed both of them.
