ISLAMABAD, May 20: After failing to convince the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for recounting or re-polling at one National Assembly and one provincial assembly seat, the supporters of Muttahida Deeni Mahaz (MDM) blocked the Faizabad interchange for several hours on Monday, creating troubles for commuters.
The MDM is led by Maulana Samiul Haq of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and consists of five other parties. They include one each from the Barelvi and Ahle Hadis factions and the banned Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ).
The protest was led by workers of ASWJ as the demands were mostly related to their leaders.
The other demand was re-polling in PS-128 Karachi, where Aurangzeb Farooqui, an ASWJ Karachi chapter leader, lost to an MQM candidate.
Similar sit-in and protest was held on Friday near Nadra headquarters when Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi and Aurangzeb Farooqui appeared before the election commission with their requests for re-polling and re-counting.
The requests were, however, turned down by the election commission.
As a result, a few dozen workers of the party on Monday held the protest and blocked the Faizabad interchange.
