KARAK, May 18: Two persons were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents here on Saturday.
In the first accident, two motorcycles collided head-on in Rehmatabad area of Karak tehsil. As a result one bike rider Shakirullah died on the spot while Gul Shehzada and Wali Khan sustained critical injuries. The injured were shifted to district headquarters hospital Karak.
In the second accident, a van carrying passengers plunged into a deep ravine in Chanikhel area, also in Karak tehsil, injuring four passengers. The injured were taken to a local hospital. However, one of the injured identified as Tahir succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.
PENSIONERS’ WOES: Pensioners’ welfare association, district Karak chapter, has demanded increase in pensions keeping in view the price hike and provision of medical allowance to the pensioners.
The demand was made at a meeting of the association held at Terri on Saturday with its district president Akbar Ali Khan Qureshi in the chair. A large number of pensioners attended the meeting.
The meeting expressed concern over the lukewarm response by the successive governments towards their problems. They hoped the new government will increase the pension in the upcoming budget.
They said in the meager resources they were unable to run their domestic expenses and pay fees of children.
The meeting informed that thousands of pensioners of Banda Daud Shah tehsil had not taken their pensions since last many months as the Terri general post office had been attached with the Kohat GPO.
They demanded that the accounts of thousands of pensioners (male and female) of Banda Daud Shah should be transferred to Karak GPO to enable them to get their pension from Terri GPO on monthly basis.
The meeting stressed that all retired government servants of district Karak should ensure their participation in the meeting of the association to take united stand for solution of problems being faced by the pensioners. They warned of staging protest if attention was not given to solve their problems.
