KARACHI, May 18: Teenager Ebad Sarwar put up a scintillating performance in routing third seed Zubair Raja in a three-set marathon battle to reach boys under-14 singles semi-final in the second National Bank of Pakistan Open national juniors and seniors’ tennis championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Saturday.

Ebad came from the jaws of defeat in the second set after losing the opener to post 2-6, 7-6, 10-5 victory over a better opponent to advance into first semi-final of his career.

Unseeded Ebad now takes on top seed Sahibzada M. Ali in the semis as the latter punished Atif Nawaz 6-0, 6-0 in the other quarter-final.

Earlier, Ebad overcame stiff opposition when he sent Parbat Kumar packing 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 in under-14 singles first round.

Meanwhile, talented Talha Zubair Surmawala had a 6-0, 6-0 short work of Sahibzada Mohammad Ali in the juniors under-18 singles opener. The former is drawn to meet Aiman Ashok in quarters.

The organisers said they have included boys’ under-12 singles and girls’ under-14 singles events after receiving 10 and seven entries respectively.
