KARACHI, May 18: Inspired by a brilliant knock from talented opener Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan CC overpowered Pak Korangi CC by 128 runs in the last final-round fixture of the Mehdi Hasan Memorial KCCA Inter-club cricket tournament at the KCCA Stadium here on Friday.

The left-handed Fakhar hammered 93 with the aid of five boundaries and a brace of sixes as Pakistan CC made 257-9 in their stipulated 40 overs.

Skipper Javed Mansoor struck 53 that included four fours and one six, while Shaharyar Ghani hit five boundaries in making 33.

Pak Korangi CC, despite losing, qualified for the quarter-finals on net run-rate as per tournament rules for the knockout stage.

They got the required 129 runs for the loss of five wickets in 40 overs to finish second behind Group ‘A’ winners Pakistan CC.

Three of the quarter-finals will be played on Monday with Pakistan CC facing Alamgir Gymkhana at the KCCA Stadium, Al-Noor Gymkhana meeting Pak Korangi CC at the TMC Ground and Dawood Sports taking on Landhi Friends at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground.

The remaining last-eight fixture pits Malir Gymkhana against Nazimabad Gymkhana at the RLCA Ground in Gulberg on Tuesday.

The first semi-final will be held at the KCCA Stadium on Wednesday, while the other is scheduled for Thursday at the TMC Ground.
