HYDERABAD, May 8: The employees action committees, Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, and Z.A. Bhutto Agricultural College, Dokri, have accused the vice-chancellor of destroying the university through corruption and nepotism.
It appealed to the president and prime minister as well as the Sindh Governor to save the university from complete destruction.
Speaking at a news conference at the local press club on Thursday, the office-bearers of the action committee said that due to the policies of the VC, Dr Basheer Ahmed Chandio, the admission of students had decreased to an alarming extent.
They said that due to the attitude of the retired army officials working for the university, extra curricular and social activities had been eliminated and the university was being defamed due to the frequent strikes by teachers and students.
They said that luxuries of the retired officials were on the increase and added that due to misuse of funds, the professors of the university and former vice chancellor of the university, Professor Dr Rajab Ali Memon, had expressed their concern to the syndicate in writing.
They said that due to appointments on contract basis, the university was at the verge of destruction and added that the VC, registrar, controller of examinations and many others had been retired but they were working on contract basis.
They said that the VC, who was due for retirement on April 23, 2003, had received pension / commutation of Rs762,121 three months before his retirement vide cheque-97965697 dated Jan 17, 2003. They alleged that Rs850,000 had been spent on the repairs and the VC’s house.
