HYDERABAD, May 8: District Naib Nazim Nawab Rashid Ali Khan has said that the government has approved the establishment of a judicial complex at the Hyderabad Central Jail.

During his visit to the central jail here on Thursday, Mr Khan, who is also the chairman of the District Prisons Committee (DPC), said the construction work of the judicial complex would begin by July.

He said Rs16 million out of the estimated cost of Rs32 million had already been sanctioned in the first phase for the project under the Access to Justice Programme.

He said the judicial complex was being set up to expedite legal proceedings and resolve problems of non-production of prisoners at courts for the hearing of their cases.

The Naib Nazim informed that on recommendations of the DPC, the government had sanctioned Rs5 million to improve the children ward and establish a women jail in the premises of the central jail.

He said a prisoners ward would be established at the Liaquat University Medical Hospital, Hyderabad city branch, in a week to provide better health facilities to prisoners.

He also directed the prison authorities to ensure round-the-clock health service at the jail hospital.

The DPC chairman inspected different barracks, hospital, kitchen, store and the site of judicial complex and women jail at the central jail.

He also visited the Nara Jail where he said that the government was establishing an institute for training of jail staff near the prison and efforts would be made to provide gas, ambulance and other facilities at the jail.
