LAHORE, May 7: Sharjah-based Cricket Benefit Fund Series (CBFS) will continue its support to former Test cricketers by naming them major and minor beneficiaries during the Sharjah Cup tournaments.

“For quite a long time we are serving the game of cricket as well those former cricketers who served the game in the past and CBFS is acknowledging their services by nominating them beneficiaries”, said Zahid Noorani, Chief Executive, CBFS, on Wednesday.

He said CBFS was duly responding to the recommendations received from respective cricket boards for naming beneficiaries and through this process a large number of former cricketers were benefitted in the past.

“It is not just rewarding them, it is the best way to acknowledge their services in the field of cricket “, he said.

CBFS official said cricket was becoming fast popular around the globe because of televising matches live on TV and the game was expanding its span in even those countries where it was hardly known.

Quoting the example of Morocco , he said, CBFS introduced cricket there and efforts were being made to organise it on solid lines.

“If efforts are not made at early stage then it is difficult to give needed exposure to any particular sports and to create its passion among people”, he said.

He disclosed that the graph of cricket was gradually going up in Morocco and a number of cricket clubs have been established and they are getting necessary coaching and training by former Test cricketers.

“CBFS is doing all that to make it a popular sport like football, tennis and athletics which are the popular games of Morocco”, he said.—APP
