GUJRANWALA, May 7: The district coordinating officer ordered a probe into embezzlement charges against union council Nazim and inducted a local government assistant director as inquiry officer here on Wednesday.

In a memorandum sent to DCO Iftikhar Ahmad, union council No 63/27 councillors Yousaf Mehr, Suleman Butt, Mirza Shaukat Baig, Zakaullah, Ruqaya Khanam, Bismillah Begum and Robi Irfan alleged that Abdul Rasheed had misappropriated thousands of rupees of uplift projects.

They also alleged that the councillor had also sold all trees of a recreation park without the consent of the house.

SEMINAR: A seminar of traders and manufacturers organized by the local chamber of commerce and industries has underlined the need for providing soft-term loans to businessmen to boost the national economy.

The seminar held here on Wednesday was presided over by GCCI president Khawaja Tahir Hassan while State Bank chief manager Saeed Hassan, junior director Ishtiaq Ali and other bank officials were also present on the occasion.

The SBP chief manager said the bank was introducing soft-term loans on three-and-a-half per cent mark up for traders and industrialists besides providing others facilities to them so that they could export their quality products.

CONTEMPT OF COURT: A local court on Wednesday issued contempt of court notice to an SHO and sought the record of a case during next hearing on May 13.

The Gakkhar SHO was directed by court to submit a report of the case before court, but he did not comply with court orders.

SUICIDE: A woman committed suicide by taking poison after quarrelling with her husband in Baghbanpura here on Wednesday.

Shamshad Bibi quarrelled with her husband Muhammad Aslam over monetary issue. She swallowed pills and died on the way to hospital.
