DADU, May 7: A police constable and two bandits — Gulab Jaskani and Ali Gul Jaskani — were killed on Wednesday in an encounter in the Kamoon Machhi village, some 95 kilometres off here.
The encounter, which took place in the limits of Thariri Muhabat police station, after the police had confirmed information about their whereabouts. The police had been pursuing the two bandits, who had reportedly fled to the Kutcha area some time ago.
The DPO, Dadu, Ali Akbar Bangwar, had earlier received information about the presence of the members of the gang of bandit Gulab Jiskani near the Kamoon Machhi village in a bid to kidnap some of the villagers.
The DPO, accompanied by a police party, surrounded the village and asked the bandits to surrender before the police. The police said that the bandits had opened fire on them as a result of which a constable, Zulfiqar Ali Gadhi of the Khairpur Nathan Shah police station, lost his life.
The police retaliated and shot dead the gang leader, Gulab Jiskani, 60, son of Karamullah Jiskani, and one of his accomplices, Ali Gul Jiskani, 25, son of Ghulam Shabbir. Two other members of his gang, Dodo alias Sachoo Jiskani and Azizullah Shah alias Nang Shah, managed to escape.
The DPO, Ali Akbar Bangwar, while talking to this correspondent, said that the police recovered two submachine guns and 250 rounds from the possession of the dead bandits.
He said that the Sindh government had notified a bounty amounting to Rs1.3 million on the head of Gulab Jiskani.
He said that there were over 100 cases registered against Gulab Jiskani at police stations in Larkana, Nawabshah, Naushahro Feroze, Sukkur, Khairpur, Dadu and Hyderabad districts.
Our Larkana Correspondent adds: Sources said that Gulab Jiskani had become a bandit after deserting the Sindh Reserve Police, Dadu, in which he had served as a constable in 1984.
They added that since then he had been active in Larkana and Dadu districts, and was involved in many cases of kidnapping for ransom, murders and police encounters.
DEMO: A large number of residents of Taufiq Colony staged a protest demonstration outside the press club against the investigation police here the other day.
They were led by Nazar Mohammad Khushik and Allah Bachayo.
Talking to newsmen, Mr Khushik said 18 days back Mehtab and Fahim alias Rajo Solangi barged into his house and looted Rs15,000 in cash, gold ornaments and other valuables after holding members of the family hostage at gunpoint.
He said on his complaint an FIR was registered against the two accused and they were arrested.
He alleged that the Dadu town investigation police released both the accused after taking bribe from them.
Mr Khushik said the accused were threatening him with dire consequences if he did no withdrawn the case against them.
