LAHORE, May 6: The PML-N parliamentary party has decided to give a tough time to the government during next session of the Punjab Assembly.
It is planning to take along other opposition parties, specially the PPP, in its protest campaign both in and outside the house on the issues of LFO, denial of development funds to members of the Opposition and law and order.
Sit-ins are planned in front of the main entrance to the assembly building and at the Chairing Cross on The Mall, party sources say.
“The Opposition is not requisitioning a PA session before the budget to avoid the responsibility for maintaining quorum in the house, and is preparing to protest in and outside the house,” the sources said.
They believed that over 110 MPAs (taking part in the protest campaign) would be a force to reckon with, hinting that the PPP had agreed to the protest proposal.
Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi had in the first session of the house promised to take the Opposition along in all matters and allocate equal development funds to each MPA, but now the government was saying that it would earmark funds for each provincial constituency, they said.
The result was that losing candidates of the PML-Q were being asked to recommend development schemes in the constituencies of members of the Opposition, they claimed.
Meanwhile, MPA Saba Sadiq is preparing to again raise the issue of kite-flying on the floor of the house, as it is resulting in deaths of motorcyclists.
She would submit a motion in the assembly secretariat in the wake of four more deaths due to kite string in the city within a month.
Criticizing Parks and Horticulture Authority director-general Kamran Lashari and other officials engaged in promotion of kite-flying and other festivities in the city, she asked why they were not making arrangements for celebrating Eid Milad and other religious and sober events. “Are these not part of our culture,” she asked.
