Adnan set for Test debut against SA today

DUBAI, Nov 11 Young wicketkeeper-batsman Adnan Akmal is set to make his Test debut for Pakistan against South Africa on Friday at Dubai Sports City International Cricket Stadium.

Adnan, who is the younger brother of Kamran and Umer Akmal, was called up to join the Pakistan Test squad after regular 'keeper Zulqarnain Haider deserted the team in a mysterious fashion and flew to London on the morning of the fifth and final ODI here.

“It's a great honour to represent the country and I am keen to follow in the footsteps of my brothers Kaman and Umer,” the talented 25-year-old from Lahore said.

Adnan, who has scored 2392 runs in 72 first class games with two centuries and eight fifties, said the series against South Africa will be tough one and he hopes to make an impact with his skills in the contest.

With Adnan's debut, Akmal brothers have become the third trio of brothers to represent Pakistan in Test matches after the famous Mohammad brothers Wazir, Hanif, Mushtaq and Sadiq. The second such instance saw brothers Manzoor Elahi, Salim Elahi and Zahoor Elahi representing the country during the '80s and the '90s. —APP
