ISLAMABAD: Top military brass Thursday gave approval to the security plan devised for providing security to the upcoming general elections in the country scheduled for May 11.

The 70th Formation Commanders’ Conference, chaired by Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, was held at the Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The half yearly meting was attended by all Corps Commanders, Principal Staff Officers and all Formation Commanders.

The forum was given comprehensive briefings on external and internal security environment and professional matters, an official statement by ISPR said.

“Plans to provide security during May elections as asked for by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) were also discussed and deliberated,” the statement said.

The commanders assured their full cooperation to the election commission of Pakistan on security matters.

The meeting also discussed a comprehensive security plan for peaceful transfer of powers from the interim government to the elected representatives after the coming polls.
