Writers on music

Published April 10, 2013

THERE has been a dearth of learned writers on music in Pakistan. If the writers themselves are practising musicians, especially vocalists, and also possess writing skills, they are in a better position to explain and convey to the readers the rich heritage of classical music in the subcontinent and the significance of innumerable raags.

Most books on classical music have been written in Urdu due to the extensive use of Hindi and Sanskrit words in the prose which are easier to write in a native language.
