BEING a student of history and having a bad habit of collecting newspaper clippings, I came across one interesting news item printed in Dawn’s Feb 15, 2007 issue.

It said: “Out of 48, BS-22 officers, who were recently given plots in D-12 sector by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, 38 are those who had already been allotted land. Out of them, 24 became owners of two plots within a period of just two years.”

The number of such parasites has now multiplied. It is now reported in a section of the press that a summary has been approved for allotment of 102 plots of one kanal each in the federal capital to grade 22 officers.

Why such a haste at a crucial time when an interim government was all set to take charge. Moreover, would it not be wise that these specially created plots are auctioned in the open market.

This would also help the cash-starved CDA. These plots will ultimately land up with real estate investors and the privileged ones will have a windfall income, for what consideration?

It is understood that PAC has already recommended to the authorities concerned to abolish such special quotas.

It is suggested that an exercise be conducted for information of the electorates to ascertain the number of original holders still holding on to these prized plots.
