MANSEHRA, April 24: A policeman was killed and another along with a passerby injured when terrorists detonated an explosive device by remote control on the Indus River in Judbah area of Torghar district on Wednesday.

“Terrorists targeted a police party deployed on the Indus River to check passengers of ferries moving from Judbah to Darband and other parts of Hazara. A police man was killed in the attack,” said SHO of Judbah police station Abdul Mahroof.

He said police constables Sahib Khan and Nazir Ahmad and passerby Saeed Ahmad suffered injuries in the attack and were taken to the hospital in Thakot, but Sahib Khan died before reaching there.

Mahroof said police had begun investigation into the attack to arrest the culprits and that more policemen were deployed there to restrict more such attacks in the area.

He said a police party rushed to the area after the attack and cordoned off the area, but no arrest could be made.

“Those who had planted the explosive device had fled the area but we are hopeful of achieving a breakthrough soon,” he said.

PESHAWAR BLAST: Two people, including a woman, were injured on Wednesday when a bomb blast outside the house of Pakistan People’s Party leader Tariq Khan on Ghauri Khan Street in Peshawar.

Four houses in the surrounding areas were also damaged in the blast. According to officials of the bomb disposal unit, two kilogrammes of explosives were used in the blast.

The injured, Mohammad Bilal and Rohi, were taken to Lady Reading Hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.

Soon after the blast, police cordoned off the entire area and blocked entry of the people to the blast site to search the area.

Police registered a case against Tariq Khan’s rival, Hayat Khan, and his sons, and began investigation. However, no arrests were made by Wednesday night.

An official of Shah Qabool police station said the blast was a result of old enmity between Tariq Khan and Hayat Khan.

In another case in the day, an official of Intelligence Bureau escaped as personnel of the bomb disposal unit defused a bomb planted in his car in Hayatabad Phase-I, Peshawar.

An official of Hayatabad police station told Dawn that unidentified people had planted a magnet bomb in the car of senior inspector Qazi Rasheed but the police official escaped as someone spotted the explosive device and informed police about it.

He said the explosive device weighed four kilogrammes.

The official said a case against unidentified people had been registered at Hayatabad police station as the senior inspector said he had no enmity.

LANDMINE EXPLOSION: Three people, including a child, were injured when a landmine exploded outside a house in Sadbar Kalay area of Timergara on Wednesday.

An official of Samar Bagh police station said the landmine was planted outside the house of Afghan refugee Mir Ajbar.

He said the landmine went off, injuring Gul Khan, Wakil Khan and child Matiullah and damaging a wall of the house.

According to local residents, the Afghan refugee has a dispute with his countrymen and that may be the cause of the explosion.

The Samar Bagh police registered a case against unidentified people and began investigation.

However, no arrests could be made until Wednesday night.

CRACKER BLAST INJURES SIX: Six members of a family were injured when a cracker exploded at their house in Madyan area of upper Swat on Wednesday.

Madyan circle DSP Naveed Khan said Azizullah told police that he found a cracker in his fields and brought it home.

He said the cracker exploded when a member of the family tried to clean it, injuring six women and children.

The DSP said the injured were later taken to Matta and Madyam hospitals, where their condition was stated be stable.
