BLOEMFONTEIN: Colin Ingram hit an unbeaten century to set up a comfortable 125-run win for South Africa in the first one-day international against Pakistan at Chevrolet Park on Sunday.
The left-handed Ingram made 105 not out as South Africa piled up 315 for four after being sent in to bat. Pakistan could only make 190 in reply.
Ingram made his runs off 103 balls with ten fours. It was his third one-day international century and his second against Pakistan.
He shared partnerships of 120 for the third wicket with captain AB de Villiers (65), 62 for the fourth wicket with Faf du Plessis (26) and 50 off only 23 balls with Farhaan Behardien, who hammered 34 not out off 14 deliveries.
Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla set an aggressive tone with an opening partnership of 72 after South Africa were sent in, with both batsmen going for their shots against Junaid Khan and Umar Gul despite the Pakistan new ball bowlers getting some early assistance from the pitch.
Pakistan made a bright start with Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed putting on 42 for the first wicket off 43 balls before the suffered a double blow.
Jamshed was caught at slip by Graeme Smith off Rory Kleinveldt for 25 and Hafeez fell for the same score in unlucky fashion when a drive by Younis Khan was deflected by bowler Kleinveldt into the stumps for Hafeez to be run out.
Asad Shafiq fell cheaply and Pakistan were unable to build substantial partnerships with captain Misbah-ul-Haq top-scoring with 38.
Shahid Afridi hit 34 off 16 balls before he was last man out but his innings was never likely to alter the outcome. Afridi hit three sixes, including a massive strike which sailed out of the ground and into a car park.
Kleinveldt, whose first two balls were hit for four, came back strongly to finish with four for 22 in 5.2 overs, while Ryan McLaren took three for 19.
The win gave South Africa a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The second match will be in Centurion on Friday.

how can we get rid of Misbah and Younus, when our top player are there LIKE UMAR AKMAL and Ahmed Shehzad, it is real time to utilize them, Misbah will be our HERO if he sacrifices himself for the sake of Pakistan and get retirement from OD. Now every body is abuses him.

When professional batsmen are unable to score even a half-century, then they need to be replaced immediately. Learn from Cricket Australia.
Please bring in fresh faces because as it is, the team is losing. So what is wrong in trying youngsters?

Hello Brother,
This is too much criticism over pakistan cricket... I am an Indian,,, But whenver pakistan plays with any country, I sit and watch how they are fighting with other teams... They are really marvelous on many occassions.. But this time it was not worked properly..
I love all the pakistani bowlers and batsman except Javed mianded...Definitely pakistan will give a fitting reply to southafrica in their own soil...

Well done South Africa as expected. I think Pakistan is not going to win even a single one day in this series if they play with the same squad. Why Ahmed Shahzad is not included for one days after the T20 match performance? I still believe that these gamblers are involved in dirty politics in the team :(

It was really a bad selection , Afridi was in form but didn't got any support , misbah should send him in top order , no need of shoaib malik in team we should pick razzaq instead of him n shehzad instead of farhat .

Why don't Pakistanis learn to enjoy a game than just commenting all the time one day with positive ego followed by a second of mourning and negative expressions.

I wasted my whole night watching the game! It was such a shit show....I think Kamran Akmal should be out (he has baby hands for wicket keeping, his hand does not have power by jerking off every day).
Misbah play ODI like a test match and goes on duck in test matches). Shoaib Malik should be out as his mind is busy thinking about Sania Mirza lol and he does not focus on the game.
Afridi and Ahmed shehzad should open, Hafeez should come 1 down and Umar Akmal 2 down. Again, that's just my opinion. Abdul Razzak should be called back as replacement for Shoaib.

mr seedoo...don't be hypocrate, what about other lame horses in the team and pathetic team selection and decision making by misbah.....teams can win if they have fighting spirit and a courageous captain, not like Misbah...a sore loser. How come you expect to maintain a 6+ run rate and waste deliveries and when required average sky rocket then lose wickets cheaply. Misbah, Younis, Shoaib and Gul should be out and replaced by Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz. I'm sure they can beat any team in the world. Don't blame Afridi if recognized batsmen are scoring 20-30 odd runs with 70/75% strike rate.

Razzaq WAS a good player, so was Wasim, Waqar and Yousuf. His time came and gone. Whatever his stated age is, just ask people who know him, he is mucg older than his staed age, no wonder he cannot bowl, bat and field anymore, try to forget him.

Yet another crushing defeat at the hands of the South Africans by Misbah-ul-Haq and party. Mind it, South Africa is currently rated as one of the best and top cricket teams in the world in every format of the game. Moreover, they are playing on their own soil too, where even lambs become lions.
It merits mention that all neutral, third party and unbiased cricket academics, experts, players, commentators , umpires, fans, sponsors, administrators, promoters and management professionals know that for any current cricket team to beat the present South African side in South Africa, they have to give an extra-ordinary performance in all three on-the-field departments of the game. Therefore, for them, it was neither surprising nor unexpected when the current Pakistani cricket team visiting South Africa lost heavily in all (except one) of the test, T20 and ODI matches played so far.
To be more realistic and candidly speaking, for the result of the remaining four ODI matches to be different, the Pakistani cricket team has to excel exceptionally well over their formidable counter-parts in all the on-and off-the-field departments of the game. Otherwise, the bad news for the die hard Pakistani fans is that the result of the remaining four ODI matches will not be so different than the first ODI match played today.

Wrong decision to bat first after winning the toss.
Shafiq, Misbah needs to be out. A. Razzaq should always be part of ODI but he does not have any PAWAA. Ahamed Shezad should open. Hafeez is not consistent. He does it beucase he knows he is not A.Razzaq. He always has a place in the team unlike A. Razzaq. Who is expected to perform in every match.

Time to get rid of misbah, afridi, malik, younis, kamran akmal and umar gul in the ODI's. We need some youngsters. Yes they might fail initially but they will give results in the long run. Unlike these old horses who have failed time and time again and still keep on getting chances.

Team need many changes, after the tour, get rid of Misbah first and give Ahmed Shehzad a permanent place in the team, he is the future of Pakistan batting. Try not to make Kamran or Umar Akmal a finisher at number 6 or 7. Finisher in ODI has to have a brain.

I think they need to make few changes in batting, (and now i m in favor of imran farhat and nasir jamshed both left handlers need to play along with Ahmed shezad to open up with hafeez). Reason i am favoring imran farhat is he is in his current form, and playing better on fast pitch so is ahmed shazad. we can experiment and side line asad, younus and shoaib and retain all the bowlers including afridi. open hafeez and imran - keep rght and left hand combination for atleast first 15 over and see. This will cause lot of problem to adjust the line for the bowlers. - and youngerster can run better.
